I found this article on Deseret News.com that I thought would be interesting. It is titled “What does your tie say about you?” by Whitney Butters. I thought it would be beneficial for missionaries and their families to read and it might help them pick out the ties they want to take. After all, your tie is the only article of clothing that missionaries can change that is different from the white shirt and dark conservative suits and slacks. Another aspect of tie buying to take into consideration is the fabric and quality. Silk ties are very nice but they can be expensive and might not hold up very well in your particular mission. Hot, humid areas can be havoc on a silk tie as well as your white shirt as the humidity might cause the tie to bleed onto your shirt. Microfiber or polyester seems to be the most popular fabric for missionary ties. They are durable, cheap (inexpensive) and colorful. I went through a lot of ties on my mission and traded a lot too so microfiber ties were perfect. Inexpensive and they even looked good. Now days the microfiber ties look and feel just like silk and the price is just what the doctor ordered.
